Total installed evaporator heating surface is 151,000 sq. ft. Installed a new Alfa Laval wide gap plate heat exchanger model MA30-SFM with 169 plates 316S and 2761 sq. ft. of heating surface in 2003. It is operated with exhaust steam. The juice velocity is about 2.5 ft. per second and it has a heat transfer coefficient of 600 BTU/ft²/h/°F.

A new 25,000 sq. ft. Nadler pre-evaporator was added in 1988. The body is 18' in diameter with 7,250 1-3/4" x 7'-6'-1/2" copper tubes x 16 bwg and 1-1/4" steel tube sheets. New stainless steel tube sheets and bottom, along with new copper tubes, were installed in 2002.

A new 30,000 sq. ft. J&L pre-evaporator was installed in 1996. Its body is 20' in diameter, with 8,800 1-3/4" x 7'6-1/2" copper tubes x 16 bwg and 304 stainless steel tube sheets (3/4") and bottom.

These two pre-evaporators supply vapors to the juice heaters, evaporators and pans.

A new 13'-diameter, 30,000 sq. ft. J & L triple-effect evaporator was added in 1992. The first body has 16 bwg, 1-3/4" x 7'-6-1/2" copper tubes and 304 stainless steel tube sheets and bottom. The second & third bodies have 3,700 1-3/4" x 72" copper tubes and 1-1/4" steel tube sheets. These evaporators are served with a 90" counter-current barometric condenser and a two-stage steam ejector. The evaporators are equipped with automatic level, brix and vacuum controls.

A new 13'-diameter, 37,500 sq. ft. Nadler triple-effect evaporator was installed in 1978. Each body is equipped with 3,700 copper tubes - 16 bwg, 1-3/4" outer diameter, 7'-6-1/2" long - and 304 stainless steel tube sheets and bottom. All bodies have all-stainless-steel tube sheets and bottoms, with new tubes installed in 1995, 1996 and 1997. These evaporators are served by a 96"-diameter counter-current barometric condenser and a Schutte & Koerting two-stage steam ejector. Evaporator is equipped with automatic level, brix and vacuum controls.

Cora Texas also has a 1963 Honolulu Iron Works Company 10'-diameter triple effect evaporator, all-steel construction with copper tubes. All bodies were retubed in 2000 with stainless steel tube sheets and bottoms. All bodies have 2,668 copper tubes - 1-1/2" outer diameter by 7'6". Total heating surface is about 23,000 sq. ft. Evaporator fitted with automatic level and density controls. These evaporators are served by a 60" counter-current barometer condenser and Schutte & Koerting two-stage steam ejector. A 15,000-gal. clarified juice tank to feed the evaporators was installed in 1975.
